A breast augmentation and lift is a combined procedure designed to enhance the size, shape, volume, and positioning of the breasts to improve their overall appearance. Breast augmentation uses implants or transferred fat to enhance the projection, shape, and size of the breasts, while a breast lift removes excess breast tissue and elevates the breasts to create a more youthful look.

About Breast Augmentation and Lift

A breast augmentation and lift combines two popular breast-enhancing procedures to achieve more comprehensive results. Various factors, such as aging, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or significant weight loss, can affect the appearance of the breasts. Breast augmentation and lifts can also be performed to reconstruct the breasts after an injury or mastectomy. These procedures are highly customizable, with different options for implant size and placement, ensuring that results match your ideal aesthetic.

Types of Breast Implants

  • Saline Implants: Saline breast implants are composed of a silicone outer shell and filled with a sterile saline solution. Saline implants are typically placed empty and filled once placed within the breast. (1)
  • Silicone Implants: Silicone breast implants are composed of a silicone shell and filled with a silicone gel. These implants offer a softer, more natural feel. Dr. Bachelor is a clinical investigator for the new cohesive gel implants and has performed hundreds of breast procedures to evaluate safety and results.
  • SERENE IMPLANTS: SERENE IMPLANTS are a newer type of breast implant that combines the desirable features of both silicone and saline implants. This saline-filled implant has a round and smooth surface with an internal structure. These implants have two internal cavities, with two-thirds of the saline filling placed within the inner chamber and one-third placed in the outer cavity. These implants are structured in a way that allows the saline to act similarly to a viscous silicone gel, providing natural-looking and natural-feeling results. (2)

Personal Consultation

The first step to enhancing the appearance of your breasts is attending a personal consultation at either our Pleasanton or Danville office. During your consultation, Dr. Bachelor will discuss what the procedure entails, as well as review your medical history and learn more about your goals and concerns. He will also evaluate the current positioning and size of your breasts. Throughout the consultation, he will answer any questions you may have. By the end of the consultation, Dr. Bachelor will have outlined a customized procedure plan to help you address each of your concerns.

If you are ready to schedule your consultation, please fill out our contact form online or call Pleasanton and Danville locations at (925) 462-3700.

Preparation

You will be provided with a set of preparation instructions tailored to your specific procedure plan. For the best results, you should follow each of these instructions closely and carefully.

For example, you will likely be asked to:

  • Refrain from taking blood-thinning medications and supplements, as well as nicotine and alcohol, before and after the procedure.
  • Arrange transportation home from your procedure
  • Schedule time away from work and other social commitments.

Procedure

Your procedure will begin with anesthesia administration. Before the implants are in place, Dr. Bachelor will begin elevating the breasts. Using the same incisions he will use to place the implants, he will remove excess tissue and lift the breasts higher up on the chest wall. (3)

Once the lifting portion is complete, Dr. Bachelor will create a pocket for the implants. The implants may be placed above the muscle (subglandular placement) or beneath the pectoralis muscle (submuscular placement). (1) You may be more suited for an over-the-muscle placement if you have enough pre-existing breast tissue to cover the implant, creating a more natural-looking appearance. If you have thinner or less existing breast tissue, you are likely more suited for an under-the-muscle placement.

Recovery

Each individual’s recovery timeline may vary depending on the details of their procedure. In any case, these procedures are performed on an outpatient basis, meaning you go home the same day.

Dr. Bachelor will provide a compression garment or support bra to enhance your recovery and comfort. It is important to wear the garment to minimize swelling and protect your newly shaped breasts. You may experience some discomfort throughout your initial recovery period, but these effects are temporary and may be managed by following aftercare instructions closely. You may be able to resume light activities within one to two weeks, but high-impact physical activities should be avoided until Dr. Bachelor approves.

Results

You will be able to see the final results of your augmentation and lift after your breasts have settled into their natural placement and any residual swelling has subsided. The results of a combined breast augmentation and lift are long-lasting. If you choose silicone implants, you will need to undergo breast imaging procedures every two to three years to monitor them. After 10-15 years, implants typically need to be removed or replaced, regardless of the type.
