Balanced Facial Appearance
Chin surgery in Pleasanton or Danville CA is an excellent procedure for adding definition to your lower face or neck area, and it can performed in conjunction with other surgical procedures. For example, liposuction may contour the neck area, and rhinoplasty can also help balance the projection of facial features.
Chin Surgery Benefits
- Reduce a prominent chin
- Augmentation of a weak chin
- Bring balance to facial proportions
Chin augmentation can be performed with chin implants or through a surgical lengthening of the bone. We make an incision is made inside the mouth (under the lower lip) or beneath the chin. A pocket is created over the chin bone and the implant is put in place.
The technique is quite different with genioplasty; the chin bone is separated, moved forward slightly and surgically reattached. In some cases, chin reduction surgery is the best way to achieve the desired outcome. In these cases, the chin bone is reduced or reshaped using a burr or drill.
After chin surgery, bandages will cover external incisions and internal sutures should be washed after eating until they dissolve on their own. Recovery time is 7-10 days while mild swelling can persist for up to 3 weeks. Discomfort after surgery can be managed with medication if necessary.
Be sure to protect your chin from accidental impacts and sun exposure.
As with any surgical procedure, adverse events are possible with chin surgery, including infection, bleeding, asymmetrical appearance, skin irregularities, atypical scarring and changes in sensitivity. Risks and safety information will be reviewed and discussed in detail during your consultation.
