Kybella! CoolMini! New Treatments to Battle the Under-Chin Bulge

Good news for those who find themselves perpetually plagued with a double chin—the last year has seen the debut of two non-invasive treatments designed to reduce fat in the submental area below the chin. Often stubborn and hard to target, the area under the chin has been a source of frustration for many of our patients at Eastbay Aesthetic Surgery.

Our patients are not alone, a 2014 study showed that 68 percent of those polled were concerned with excess fat under their chin and necks. Ever growing, this represents an eight percent increase from the previous year.

This is what makes the introduction of Kybella and CoolMini so exciting!

Kybella

Kybella mimics deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule present in the body that assists with fat breakdown and absorption. When injected directly into the submental fat region, Kybella initiates the destruction of unwanted fat cells—ultimately causing the cells to burst, dissolve, and be flushed from the body.

Completed as a series, Kybella may require 2 – 4 sessions spaced about one month apart. Each session lasts around 15 minutes

CoolMini

CoolMini, is based on the same cooling principles as its popular counterpart, CoolSculpting. Perfect for a double chin—this new, smaller applicator is able to target small and more specific pockets of fat. Utilizing cryolipolysis, the process of cooling and freezing fat, CoolMini causes fat cells to disintegrate and naturally clear through the body’s lymphatic system.

A younger neck can be limiting as the skin is too tight—with nothing to properly latch onto, it is difficult for the area to be pulled into CoolMini’s vacuum-like device. Each session lasts about one hour with most patients see optimal results after two treatments.
