About the Mommy Makeover
A mommy makeover is a set of aesthetic procedures designed specifically for mothers who wish to restore their pre-pregnancy figures. While designed for new mothers, it is not required to be a mother to receive these treatments. Anyone who would benefit from these combined procedures can request a mommy makeover.
After giving birth, many women notice changes like sagging breasts, excess skin and fat around the belly, and unwanted bulges in various areas of their bodies. (1) These physical changes can particularly affect self-esteem and body image, leading some women to seek out surgical solutions. The procedures involved in a mommy makeover can vary based on individual needs but typically include breast augmentation, breast lifts (mastopexy), tummy tucks (abdominoplasty), and liposuction. Each component addresses specific concerns relating to the postpartum body. Ultimately, the goal of a mommy makeover is to enhance multiple aspects of one’s appearance while restoring confidence. (2)
Benefits
At East Bay Aesthetic Surgery, our patients typically benefit from a mommy makeover in the following ways:
- Restoration of breast shape: Procedures like augmentation and lifts address volume loss and sagging, significantly improving breast aesthetics.
- Elimination of excess skin: Tummy tucks effectively remove abundant skin caused by stretching during pregnancy, leading to a firmer-looking abdomen.
- Reduction of stubborn fat: Liposuction helps eliminate fat pockets that are resistant to diet and exercise, enhancing overall body contours.
- Boosted self-confidence: Many mothers report feeling significantly better about their bodies after treatment, which can improve their overall mental health and outlook.
- Customizable treatment plans: Every mommy makeover is uniquely tailored to suit individual needs and body aspirations.
- Rejuvenation of overall appearance: The mommy makeover addresses multiple areas at once, allowing for an all-encompassing refresh of physical appearance.
- Long-lasting results: Results from mommy makeovers can last for many years, as long as patients lead a healthy lifestyle and maintain a stable weight.
- Minimal scarring: Experienced surgeons like Dr. Bachelor strategically place incisions where they can be easily concealed.
Candidates
Any eligible patient—mother or not—can receive a mommy makeover if they would like to rejuvenate their body comprehensively. Patients should, however, be finished with having children before receiving these treatments. Future pregnancy and childbirth can affect the results of these rejuvenating procedures. Patients should also wait at least 6 months after giving birth before considering a mommy makeover. Patients should be in good general health, not smoke, maintain realistic expectations for their results, and be willing to collaborate with Dr. Bachelor to plan their ideal outcome. Patients who smoke must be willing to quit for some time.
Personal Consultation
An essential first step in the mommy makeover process is scheduling a personal consultation with Dr. Bachelor at East Bay Aesthetic Surgery. During this meeting, Dr. Bachelor will assess your anatomy, discuss your cosmetic goals, and review your medical history. Dr. Bachelor encourages open communication during this time, addressing all questions and concerns so that you feel confident in your decision-making going forward.
Procedures
The typical mommy makeover involves breast augmentation combined with a tummy tuck. We can also perform liposuction to help you slim down isolated areas of stubborn fat. The procedures can be done in a single operation or stages, depending on your needs.
Tummy Tuck
Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) surgery is designed to flatten and sculpt the midsection. After having children, many women suffer from abdominal muscle separation, a condition known as diastasis recti, and stretched abdominal skin. (3) During a tummy tuck procedure, Dr. Bachelor will make an incision across the lower torso, along the underwear line. Dr. Bachelor will tighten the muscles with sutures and remove excess skin. Tummy tuck patients often report increased confidence, enhanced comfort, and increased mobility. (3)
Liposuction
Liposuction treatments remove stubborn fat deposits from different areas of the body, such as the abdomen, flanks, thighs, breasts, buttocks, neck, and more. (4) Liposuction is not a weight loss treatment; rather, it is a body sculpting procedure that enhances the figure. To facilitate liposuction, Dr. Bachelor will make a small incision and insert a small tube (cannula), which gently breaks down and removes unwanted fat cells. (4) Dr. Bachelor also offers Reuvion, a treatment that tightens and improves the appearance of loose or sagging skin.
Breast Procedures
Breast augmentation with implants or a fat transfer is a way to enhance breast volume and shape after pregnancy. After pregnancy and breastfeeding, the breasts may appear to lose volume, sag, or change shape. Using the latest saline and silicone breast implants, Dr. Bachelor can restore a full, youthful, and perky appearance to the breasts. Many patients may also receive a breast lift, or mastopexy, in addition to implants.
During a breast lift, Dr. Bachelor will remove excess skin from sagging, deflated breasts to create a perkier appearance. Your underlying pectoral muscles can also be tightened with sutures to provide your breasts with a stronger foundation.
Some patients may also incorporate a breast reduction in their mommy makeover treatment. If you have overly large breasts that cause back pain or impact your proportions, we can effectively reduce their size to address these issues.
Other Treatments
Mommy makeovers are all about customization, so if there are other areas you would like to target in your rejuvenation treatment, we would be happy to incorporate these into your procedure if possible. For example, a thigh lift can effectively sculpt smoother, slimmer-looking thighs. Arm lifts and body lifts can also improve your image and eliminate excess skin.
Recovery
After surgery, we will provide you with specific aftercare instructions. You will rest for a few days and wear specialized compression garments to minimize swelling and encourage proper healing. Most patients experience some soreness and bruising during their recovery. The final results will become gradually apparent as the swelling subsides. Most patients can resume normal activities, including work, within two weeks, while rigorous activities and strenuous exercise should be postponed for several weeks or until Dr. Bachelor approves.
Results
Mommy makeover procedure results often contribute to an enhanced sense of self-esteem and confidence. Body contouring procedures result in a more sculpted figure, less excess skin, and often increased comfort as a result. Future pregnancies, weight gain, and more can affect the results of your mommy makeover, so patients should try to follow healthy dieting and exercise plans to help maintain a stable weight and improve long-term health.

FAQ
Is breastfeeding possible after a mommy makeover?
This depends on the techniques used during your breast procedures. We recommend waiting until after you have finished breastfeeding before undergoing a mommy makeover, as pregnancy and breastfeeding can impact the final results.
How long does it take to recover from a mommy makeover?
While recovery varies from person to person, many patients resume some normal activities within two to three weeks, with complete healing taking up to several months.
Will a mommy makeover leave scars?
Yes, mommy makeovers incorporate surgical techniques that require incisions that will result in scarring. However, experienced surgeons like Dr. Bachelor aim to minimize visible scars by placing incisions in inconspicuous areas.
Can I have a mommy makeover if I plan to have more children?
It is recommended to wait until you have completed your family before pursuing a mommy makeover, as future pregnancies could reverse the results achieved.
